How To Make Spritz Cookies

These have truly been one of my favorite Christmas Cookies since I was little. The shapes are just so much fun and tasty too!

They are really easy to make but you do need a cookie press. Start by beat together the butter and sugar in a large bowl. Then beat in the egg, vanilla extract and lastly the flour. I used an electric hand mixer but you can mix by hand. The dough will be somewhat thick.

At this point, separate the dough into separate bowls if you wish to add food coloring. Use as many bowls as colors you would like to make. I start with 2 – 3 drops of food coloring and then continue to add until I get the desired shade.

Now place your dough in the cookie press, one color at a time, adding the shape you want to press to the machine.

Turn the dough out on an ungreased cookie sheet and decorate the cookies with sprinkles if you wish. Bake for 6 minutes at 400 degrees. Watching to not burn the cookies, depending on your pan you may need a minute more or a minute less.

Cool the cookies on a wire rack and continue pressing the dough onto the cookie sheet until done. I usually fit about a dozen on one sheet pan.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer.

Enjoy!
