These Chocolate Oatmeal Balls are one of my favorite Christmas cookies. My Grandma used to send them in our annual Christmas Cookie box every year, along with a lot of my other “favorite” cookies.
Ingredients Needed For Chocolate Oatmeal Balls
- all-purpose flour
- granulated sugar
- large egg
- shortening
- unsweetened cocoa
- milk
- vanilla extract
- baking soda
- sea salt
- quick oats or old fashioned oats

How To Make Chocolate Oatmeal Balls
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line a sheet pan with parchment. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and shortening with an electric hand mixer. Then beat in egg, milk and vanilla extract. Next, beat in the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa, baking soda and salt. Stir in the oats by hand.
Using a small cookie scoop or teaspoon, scoop out and shape one inch round balls and place on the sheet pan a couple inches apart. Then dip a fork in flour and press a crisscross into the balls and flatten slightly.
Bake for 9 -11 minutes and cool on a wire rack.
Store in an airtight container.

- 1 cup quick oats or old fashioned oats
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 and line a sheet pan with parchment.
- In a large bowl, beat sugar and shortening with an electric hand mixer.
- Then beat in egg, milk and vanilla.
- Next, beat in flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt.
- Stir in the oats by hand.
- Using a small cookie scoop, roll dough into 1 inch balls and place on sheet pan a couple inches apart.
- Dip a fork in flour and make a crisscross pattern on the tops of the dough balls and slightly flatten.
- Bake for 9 – 11 minutes and cool on a wire rack.
- Store in an airtight container.
