Chocolate Chunk Bars

How to Make Chocolate Chunk Bars

Let’s get started, pre-heat oven 350 degrees and lightly grease a 9 x 13 baking dish with cooking spray. I almost exclusively use a glass baking dish for brownie and bar recipes.

In a large microwave safe mixing bowl, melt the butter, about one minute. It doesn’t need to be completely melted and boiling when down, the butter will continue to melt after you remove from the microwave. Also, this is where this recipe is either one bowl or two. If you are using a stand mixer with a stainless steel bowl, you will have to melt the butter in a microwave safe bowl and transfer.

Ok, so, the butter is melted, now add the light brown sugar and beat together. Add in the eggs and vanilla and mix until well combined. Lastly, beat in the flour.

By now you have decided whether you are using store bought chocolate chunks or chopping baking bars. If you using baking bars, go ahead and roughly chop them if you haven’t already. Add the chocolate to the batter and stir in by hand.

Spread mixture into the lightly greased 9 x 13 baking dish. Mixture will be thick, I use a butter knife to press the mixture down into the dish.

Bake 22 – 25 minutes until edges are browned. It will look at little soft and that’s ok! It’s just it’s buttery goodness 🙂 I baked mine for 23 minutes. Baking time could also vary based on the type of baking dish or pan you are using. Remember all ovens are different!

Let cool for about 15 or so minutes before cutting. Bars will be full of buttery and soft chocolate goodness!

Recipe Notes:

  • I used a glass baking dish instead of metal or ceramic but all will work, but you may have to adjust your baking time.
  • Bars will appear to be soft but if they edges are brown they are done.
  • You can find packaged chocolate chunks with the chocolate chips in your local grocery store. If not, roughly chop baking chocolate bars.
  • In this recipe I used Dark Chocolate Chunks.
  • Makes 24 bars or you can cut them into larger squares.
  • Store in an airtight container.
  • Bars freeze well.

Hope you enjoy!
