- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup salted butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- 2 tsp lemon peel, grated
- 1 tbsp anise seeds
- 1 tbsp anise extract
- 1 tbsp lemon extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees and line a sheet pan with parchment.
- In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar with an electric hand mixer until smooth.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time.
- Then mix in the lemon extract, anise extract, anise seeds and lemon peel.
- Lastly, beat in the dry ingredients, flour and baking powder.
- Stir in the sliced almonds by hand.
- Split the dough in half and shape into rectangular logs, approx. 8x2x1 in size, and place on a parchment lined sheet pan.
- Bake for 20 – 25 minutes.
- Remove from oven and cool for about 30 minutes.
- Using a serrated knife, slice the logs into 1 inch slices diagonally .
- Arrange all the slices on the baking sheet on their sides.
- Bake for 10 minutes then flip to other side, bake another 10 minutes.
- Let cool completely and store in an airtight container.
