How To Make Easy Italian Bread

When I say Easy Italian Bread, I mean easy! This dough comes together in a matter of minutes, and two rises later you have fresh homemade bread!

First, mix water, yeast and sugar in large mixing bowl. Let sit about 5 -10 minutes until the yeast activates and gets foamy. Now, add olive oil, two cups of the flour and a pinch of salt and begin mixing on low with a dough hook. Mix until the dough looks combined but a little rough.

Increase the mixing speed to medium and add remaining flour. Mix for about 5 minutes on medium, the dough will look smooth and elastic.

Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for one hour. (I transferred to another bowl slightly greased with olive oil.) After an hour, transfer to lightly floured surface, now you can make one large boule or split in half for two boules.

Place on lightly greased cookie sheet, silicone mat or parchment paper. Cover with towel and let rise for 20 – 30 minutes and preheat your oven to 400 degrees. I placed my pan on top of the stove while it pre-heated.

After 20 – 30 minutes, and the oven is pre-heated, remove towel and using a sharp knife make 1 – 3 slits in the top of the boule(s). Bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.

The bread will be lightly browned on top and bottom, transfer to cooling rack. Let cool and rest for about 15 – 20 minutes and then slice.

Depending on the humidity of where you live, you can store in a paper bag, wrapped in foil or in sealable plastic bag on your kitchen counter. Just watch for moisture in the plastic bag, it may cause the bread to mold.

Hope you enjoy!
