How To Make Homemade Crescent Rolls
Baking bread doesn’t have to be hard. Even if you don’t have a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment, you can knead by hand and achieve the same results.
So, let’s get started with the starter! Mix the dry yeast with warm water and a pinch of sugar. I let the faucet run for a minute to get warm water, no need to boil water. Or heat a little in the microwave. Set aside and let the yeast react for about 5 minutes.
In another bowl, whisk together three tablespoons of melted better, sugar and eggs. Let the butter cool a little if it gets too hot when you melt it, you don’t want your eggs to cook when you mix them in!
In a large mixing bowl or the bowl with your stand mixer, add the flour and the salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and the egg mixture. Mix by hand until dough comes together or use the paddle attachment for 30 – 60 seconds.
Then by hand knead for 10 minutes or switch to the dough hook for 5 minutes. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let rise for one hour.
After one hour, turn the dough out on a lightly floured surface. Knead into a ball and cut the dough in half.
Roll out each half and then using a butter knife, spread some of the softened butter on top of the dough. Then cut into triangles.
Roll from wide side and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. I used two baking sheets, you want to leave enough room between the rolls, they will puff up more when they bake. Cover the rolls on the baking sheet with clean dish towel and let rise for 20 minutes. Start preheating the oven to 350 degrees.
After 20 minutes, brush the tops of the rolls with butter. I melted the rest of the softened butter and used a pastry brush.
Bake the rolls for 12 – 14 minutes. Hope you enjoy!!
