This Pumpkin Spice Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese frosting is the perfect dessert for fall! Made with buttermilk, this cake has a light and moist texture. It’s great for family gatherings or office parties!

  • salted butter
  • dark brown sugar
  • granulated sugar
  • large eggs
  • pumpkin puree
  • buttermilk
  • vanilla extract
  • all-purpose flour
  • baking powder
  • pumpkin pie spice
  • ground cinnamon
  • baking soda

Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

  • cream cheese
  • salted butter
  • milk
  • ground cinnamon
  • vanilla extract
  • confectioners sugar

How To Make Pumpkin Spice Cake

This cake will become your new favorite dessert for the holidays! It’s really easy to make, so let’s get started!

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13 x 9 baking pan with butter. Take the stick of butter, wrapping one end in the paper, rub the stick all around the inside of the baking pan. Then line the pan with parchment and butter the inside of the parchment as well.

Now in a large mixing bowl, beat the butter with an electric hand mixer until creamy. Then beat in the sugars. Add the eggs one at a time, beating between each addition. Set this bowl aside.

In a medium mixing bowl, beat together the pumpkin, buttermilk and vanilla. Set this bowl aside.

In another medium bowl, stir together the dry ingredients, the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice.

Now, alternating, add the flour and pumpkin mixture to the butter and sugar mixture. Beating well between each addition.

Pour the batter into the greased parchment lined pan. Bake for 32 – 35 minutes. Check with a toothpick at 32 minutes, bake until it comes out clean. Cool cake completely before icing.

To make icing, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter. Then beat in the vanilla and milk. Lastly, mix in the sugar and cinnamon. Beat until smooth. Frost the top of the cake.

  • 3/4 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease a 13 x 9 pan with butter then line with parchment and grease the parchment.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter until creamy with an electric hand mixer.
  4. Beat in the sugars and then add the eggs one at a time, mixing between each addition.
  5. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon.
  6. In another separate bowl, beat together the pumpkin, buttermilk and vanilla.
  7. Now, alternate adding the flour mixture and then the pumpkin mixture to the butter and sugar mixture, mixing between each addition.
  8. Pour batter into greased pan and bake for 32 – 35 minutes, until toothpick is clean.
  9. Completely cool before frosting the cake.

Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter.
  2. Beat in vanilla and milk.
  3. Beat in the sugar and cinnamon until smooth.
  4. Frost the top of the cake.
  5. Enjoy!
